Another Hot Day

It's another hot day here in south east Kansas, right now it's 104 degrees outside with a heat index of 111 degrees. I am really looking forward to some cooler weather.

Today is Friday the 13th and it started out with a bang. My father-in-law had to go to the ER at 8am this morning. He was having chest pain and has had several heart attacks, a valve replacement, and a pacemaker and defibrillator implanted. We met him and my mother-in-law at our local hospital and after a few hours they transferred him to Topeka Kansas by ambulance to be in the hospital where his Cardiologist is located. It looks like it is his congestive heart failure and they are giving him diuretics to reduce the fluid build up that he is experiencing.

There is really not allot going on here. I did go see two Drs yesterday and had some more blood work done, it's looking more and more like my crohns disease that is causing the elevated white counts that I have had for several months now. I also took my brother-in-law to Alcohol rehab this past Wednesday and he will be there 21-30 days. We are hopeful that he will be able to find some kind of job when he gets out so he can move out of our house and into his own residence.

The kids are all doing well. Cindy is in San Diego, from the USS Abraham Lincolns Facebook page ( USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Moored, shift colors. Lincoln is pierside in San Diego after a three successful, and busy, weeks at sea ). John has been busy with his ship and Mike is busy in South Korea. That's about all for now. That's right, I'm still here. It's just been so hot lately I haven't felt like doing much of anything. I did mow the yard yesterday and I'm glad I got that done. Right now it's 100 degrees outside with a heat index of 114.4 degrees., It's supposed to be like this all week. YUCK!!!! Ok, enough about that for now. It;s going to be a busy week. I take my brother-in-law to alcohol rehab Wednesday ( he will be gone 28 days ) and then Thursday I have two Dr appointments. Today we moved some furniture around the house, cleaned, and then went grocery shopping.

My kids are all doing well. my son John is at the beach today in Jacksonville, FL, Mike is busy in South Korea ( I talked to him on Skype yesterday ). and Cindy just sent me a picture from her ship. She said "This is a picture taken of me for the United Through Reading group I am part of. its so people can read to their children while we are on deployment and the DVDs get sent back home to the families." :) Ok, as for me I went to the ER a few days ago with double vision with one image on top of the other., it was really interesting to say the least, it lasted several hrs. The PA thinks it was a complex migraine but I will ask my Dr about it when I see him this week. That's about all for now. Hope everyone has a great week.

The first day of Spring?

Yesterday it was 70 degrees here and today we have snow, go figure. So far we have 8-9 inches outside, and they are calling for 12-15 inches of the white stuff. Oh well.... So much for the Global Warming crap.

Good morning, It looks like a great weather week

Good morning, It looks like a great weather week here in South East Kansas with temps in the 70s for several days. It will be nice to be able to turn off the heat and open the windows and doors for a few days. :) I talked to my son John this morning on WLM and he played some songs that he was learning on his keyboard and I got to see his barracks room in Mayport, FL via Webcam. It was nice to see him. John is going to the mall today with some friends. We hope to find out if John will be able to come visit us this month in the next day to two. His ship is going out next month sometime for six months. That's about all for know. I am just finishing up my pot of coffee and listening to music. Hope everyone has a great day.

The heat is here to stay for a while.

Good afternoon. Sorry I haven't posted much lately but there isn't really anything going on here. It's hot here in south east Kansas and it's going to get hotter the next few days. I mowed the lawn today and by the time I was done I looked like I had just climbed out of a swimming pool. I wish that were the case but it was not. :(

I see the surgeon Monday to find out about my knees that have been giving me pain for a while. I will be anxious to hear what he has to say. I am going to spend the rest of today inside where it's cool. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

We made it through the night

We made it through the night. With all the hype about the impending storms yesterday we were ready for something big to happen and it never did. We did get a thunder storm at about 10pm with allot of rain and lightning but that was about it. :)

Yesterdays predictions were off the chart as far as the weather was concerned and we were worried. The "Emergency Alert System" was sounded on television around 7pm telling us that severe storms were on the way and would be here in another 2hrs or so. I guess everyone was worried about what was about to happen. It turned out to be fairly mild when compared to other storms that we have had this year. I think we're all glad that the predictions were wrong for our area. Today it is supposed to be mostly sunny and 85.

Bad Weather this afternoon, evening, and night. Extreme Risk of Tornadoes, Storms

It looks like it is going to be a bad night Weather wise. The Weather services are calling for a very bad night with large hail, straight line winds in excess of 90-100 mph, and strong long track tornado's for our area of South East Kansas. Computer forecasting models for the day bear striking similarities to the conditions present on June 8, 1974, when 39 tornadoes touched down in the southern Plains and killed 22 people.

Ouiet Week and And a little about the Kids

Good morning everyone. It's been a quiet week here in Kansas. Not much going on. I mowed the lawn a few days ago and that's about it. It's going to be sunny and warm for the next several days with daytime temps in the mid 80s. Can't complain about that.

Our son in the Navy, John called last week and needed his College and High School Transcripts sent to his CO right away and needed our help. John's CO is recommending him for the STA21 ( Seaman to Admiral-21 ) program. John said that another Officer on his Ship was helping him get ready for the interviews that are involved with getting into the Officer Program.

Our daughter in the Navy, Cindy is still in her CIWS C-School in San Diego. She graduates July 3rd. Cindy is also in Petty Officers Indoc now. When I talked to Cindy last night she had a cold and was not feeling very well. Hope you feel better soon Cindy.

This morning my parents in Port Orange Florida took some pictures of the pond behind their house. Take a look at what is in the pond. :) This is only about 20 feet from their back yard.

What a night

We had a heck of a night last night. The evening started out with a front moving in around 7:30pm. We could see several Funnel clouds from our deck. The Tornado sirens went off 14 times last night from 8pm to just after 10pm and we and our neighbors saw one Tornado around 10pm, it looked like it was out by the Chanute airport ( maybe a mile west of us ). This has been a real pain. As soon as we would get home they would go off again. We don't have a basement so we spent most of last evening at a neighbors house standing outside looking at the sky.

Here are some of the Local Storm Reports. Looks like we should have called in the one we all saw at 10 pm but the tornado sirens were sounding at the time.

Warm Day today and talked to Cindy yesterday

Good morning all. I wasn't feeling well yesterday but seem to be doing better today, at least so far. :) My daughter Cindy called during her lunch break at C-School from San Diego Naval Base. Cindy was doing well. She told me that she played Poker at the MWR and came in second place and won a gift card. They played Texas hold 'em. Cindy has a friend that is in the Marines and is currently in Arizona and on his way to Iraq that is going to drive up to San Diego for the weekend to visit. They plan on going out to the Movies and just hanging out this weekend. My son John is on Duty today in Mayport FL so I probably won't hear from him until tomorrow when he gets off. Now that he is qualified with the handgun he will probably have to stand guard duty allot.

We have strange weather here in South East Kansas. Today it is supposed to get up to 70 degrees and Monday we might get Snow. LOL At least Spring is right around the corner and then we should have warm weather for several months. We can't wait. That's about it from here. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

The Kids called and an e-mail from my parents

Good morning everyone. It's been a quiet week here in South East Kansas. Nothing is really going on. Yesterday we had a warm up in the weather with temps in the 60s but that is gone now. When I woke up this morning it was 19 degrees outside and they are predicting highs in the 30s today. My wife Vicki has a birthday Sunday and it looks like she is going to get Snow. We are really anxious for Spring...

My daughter Cindy called yesterday from her CIWS C-School at San Diego Naval Base and told me that in class yesterday the instructor told them to go to www.google.com and type in "French Military Victories" and then click the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. The results are hilarious. Give it a try and have some fun. Cindy just told me "Today I have duty. Tomorrow I am going to the rec center until my buddy Zac gets off. He is going to take me out to his sail boat and teach me how to sail and kayak. Its going to be fun. I have a 3 day weekend. I don't go back to class until Tuesday after I get off today. I don't have watch so I am going to pretty much play games online."

My son John called from Naval Station Mayport Florida. John was doing well. He had a good week so far. They celebrated Black History Month with films and food on his Ship. John said that the speeches were interesting and the food was great. This weekend he is going to Daytona with one of his friends to see the Daytona 300 on Saturday and tonight he is going to see a concert. My parents live a few miles from the Daytona Speedway so John just might be able to see them when he is in town.

My Mom sent me an e-mail with some pictures yesterday. The e-mail says "We had the WGA Cupid Scramble today and it was in the thirties when we started out. I froze. I could not swing with my jacket on and it was so cold with it off. We did not win but Kathleen and Alden did. We were three under and they were five under. We needed one and a half more points to be in the money. We had 100 people playing and had lunch afterwards. My feet are still cold."

Kathleen and Alden are my Aunt and Uncle that also live in the same neighborhood as my parents along with my Aunt Jane and Uncle John.
