Drink too much coffee and you could start seeing ghosts

{{Potd/2006-08-30 (en)}}Image via WikipediaPeople who drink too much coffee could start seeing ghosts or hearing strange voices, UK research has suggested.

If you see dead people you’re not alone or that strange after all. According to new research excessive caffeine can cause hallucinations according to the BBC. In this study they found that people who drank more than seven cups of instant coffee were 3 times more likely to hallucinate.

This is good news for all you energy drink addicts who far surpass the caffeine levels of 7 measly cups of instant coffee because now when you hear those voices, talk to people who aren’t really there, and see dead people, you know its just the caffeine. Well, at least most of you.

Chest Pain...

Good morning everyone. I have had a busy week. This week I went to the Dr's and had an EKG and some blood work done. Let me explain, I have been having Chest Pain lately and want to make sure that I am not going to drop dead with a heart attack. Next Wednesday morning at 5:30am I have to have a Stress Test at the hospital. So far things are going well.

My EKG was normal ( that means that I have not had a heart attack yet ). My Hemoglobin, White Count. Glucose, and Kidney function were all good and within normal limits when I got the results of the blood work back. My blood pressure was a little high 140/100 at the Dr's office. It has been higher st times and my cholesterol is through the roof with an overall cholesterol level in the 390s.

On Tuesday I have to pick up my son John from the airport in Kansas City. John will be here until the 18th. He said that he is going to come with me when I have the stress test done. :). Thanks John....

I have to tell you that the only thing I am not looking forward to is not being able to drink coffee 24hrs before the stress test. That means that I have to drive 126 miles to the airport and another 126 miles back home Tuesday morning without any caffeine. That sucks :( Oh well. I will let you know how the stress test turns out. Wish me luck.

Coffee and a very Simple Blueberry Cobbler

Good morning. I woke up about 6am today and am drinking my morning Coffee. I just came across this article about the benefits of caffeine for your skin. In the article it states that "research suggests that both oral and topical caffeine may offer powerful anticarcinogenic benefits. A series of studies performed on mice found that caffeinated green and black teas prevented sun damage and even repaired damage once it occurred, whereas decaffeinated teas did not." So that's right people drink that coffee and tea and enjoy. You can read the article here.

Last night my wife and I were in the mood for something that had fruit in it. We didn't have any fruit left in the fridge and it was 10pm so I didn't really feel like going to the store so I came up with the idea of a Simple Blueberry Cobbler. I had a can of Blueberry pie filling and some refrigerator biscuits so what I did was pour the pie filling in a baking dish and then put the refrigerator biscuits on top of the filling I then brushed the tops of the biscuits with an egg wash and sprinkled them with some sugar. I baked the whole thing in the oven at 350 for 45 minutes until the biscuits were a nice brown color and then we ate it. It turned out delicious. This simple recipe would work with any pie filling for a quick easy dessert. Next time I will try apple pie filling and pit some sugar and cinnamon in the filling before I add the biscuits. I bet that will be good. :)

If you don't know what an egg wash is, here is how to make it. Just mix an egg and some water together. That's it...

Coffee may cut alcohol liver damage

Could Irish coffee be the perfect drink?

Researchers reported on Monday that drinking coffee cuts the risk of cirrhosis of the liver from alcohol by 22 percent per cup each day but they stopped short of saying doctors should prescribe coffee for that reason.

The report from the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Oakland, California, was based on a look at data from 125,580 people."

You Know You’ve Had Too Much Caffeine When…

My Dad is home and is doing well. The Dr's won't let him play golf for two weeks and he will have to keep an eye on things from now on but aside from that he is fine for now. Thank God. As I sat here drinking my coffee ( need that morning caffeine ) I read the news on my Bloglines. I came across this, it's kinda funny and I wanted to share it. John

You might be a caffeine addict if:
Your web page has the Mountain Dew color scheme.
You don’t sweat, you percolate.
You have to drink some form of caffeinated beverage just to sleep.
Your eyes stay open when you sneeze.
You lick your coffeepot clean.
You know from experience caffeine tablets don’t dissolve in cola.
Juan Valdez names his donkey after you.
You grind your coffee beans in your mouth.
You get a speeding ticket even when you’re parked

You suck on a used coffee filter and grounds whenever the can runs out of coffee.
You have distilled Jolt Cola to make it more potent.
A cup of coffee before bed doesn’t keep you from falling asleep anymore.
You’ve worn out the handle on your favorite coffee mug.
You’ve ever used the airplane’s call button just to get a coffee refill.
You dip espresso beans.
You slip into a coma if you drink decaf by accident.
You’ve given up sex, TV, and all forms of meat for Lent before, but STILL can’t make it 40 days without caffeine.
Your birthday is a national holiday in Colombia.
You go to AA meetings just for the free coffee.
You go to the doctor because you’re afraid there might be blood in your Mountain Dew stream.

Poor Dad

I talked to my Mom last night after she got home from staying with Dad at the hospital. She said that Dad was awake and doing ok. He was a little grumpy, no more cigarettes or soda for him. That would make me grumpy too. I did stop drinking soda ( Coke / Pepsi ) just over a week ago because of a toothache. I have been drinking soda daily for as long as I can remember. The first couple days were hard but after that I didn't even want it anymore. Now I just drink my morning Coffee and water the rest of the day. I will have to give some serious thought to giving up smoking. Still worried about my Dad and wish I could be there for him and my Mom.
