Drink too much coffee and you could start seeing ghosts

{{Potd/2006-08-30 (en)}}Image via WikipediaPeople who drink too much coffee could start seeing ghosts or hearing strange voices, UK research has suggested.

If you see dead people you’re not alone or that strange after all. According to new research excessive caffeine can cause hallucinations according to the BBC. In this study they found that people who drank more than seven cups of instant coffee were 3 times more likely to hallucinate.

This is good news for all you energy drink addicts who far surpass the caffeine levels of 7 measly cups of instant coffee because now when you hear those voices, talk to people who aren’t really there, and see dead people, you know its just the caffeine. Well, at least most of you.

Good morning.

It's 8:30am and I just finished my first pot of coffee for the day. Yesterday was a slow day with icey streets so we didn't get out at all. My wife was supposed to have a Dr appt today in town but the Dr's office called at 7:45am to cancel the appointment. The receptionist said that the streets were just horrible and that she almost wrecked getting in today and that they were canceling all appointments. That's fine with us.

My daughter Cindy called yesterday to tell me that her boyfriend Doug is re-enlisting in the Navy and that he will get a $71,000 bonus and be promoted to an E-5 as part of the re-enlistment deal. Cindy said that Doug plans to buy some land with the money. Cindy was doing well in her CIWS C-School with a GPA of 96% in her class and that the class average GPA is 93%. I am proud of you Cindy. Cindy is in San Diego.

Cindy, when do I get to see some pictures from that new digital camera you got? :)

My son John called yesterday also. He had a good day on the Ship and is going to be on Duty today. That means that he went on the Ship at 6am and will get off sometime tomorrow afternoon. He has a Duty day every 6 days. The other days are basically 7-4pm or so with weekends off while they are in port. He said that they are protecting the country by cleaning one sink or hallway at a time. LOL There is not much else that they can do while in port on the Ship. I said that with cleaning the same things every day all day they should have the cleanest Ship in the Navy. John is in Mayport Florida.

Break in the Weather

It looks like we are going to get a lucky break in the weather. This morning's weather is only calling for 1-4 inches of snow. That is much better than what they were saying 12 hrs ago. I think I could do just as good at forecasting weather as a meteorologist. :) They just keep changing the forecast until they get it right. LOL

I'll let you know what we end up with. It has not started snowing outside yet so I might take this opportunity to go to Wal-Mart and get some sugar for my coffee. I forgot to get that yesterday.

UPDATE: 6:40am. I just looked outside and see that it has started snowing.

Coffee and a very Simple Blueberry Cobbler

Good morning. I woke up about 6am today and am drinking my morning Coffee. I just came across this article about the benefits of caffeine for your skin. In the article it states that "research suggests that both oral and topical caffeine may offer powerful anticarcinogenic benefits. A series of studies performed on mice found that caffeinated green and black teas prevented sun damage and even repaired damage once it occurred, whereas decaffeinated teas did not." So that's right people drink that coffee and tea and enjoy. You can read the article here.

Last night my wife and I were in the mood for something that had fruit in it. We didn't have any fruit left in the fridge and it was 10pm so I didn't really feel like going to the store so I came up with the idea of a Simple Blueberry Cobbler. I had a can of Blueberry pie filling and some refrigerator biscuits so what I did was pour the pie filling in a baking dish and then put the refrigerator biscuits on top of the filling I then brushed the tops of the biscuits with an egg wash and sprinkled them with some sugar. I baked the whole thing in the oven at 350 for 45 minutes until the biscuits were a nice brown color and then we ate it. It turned out delicious. This simple recipe would work with any pie filling for a quick easy dessert. Next time I will try apple pie filling and pit some sugar and cinnamon in the filling before I add the biscuits. I bet that will be good. :)

If you don't know what an egg wash is, here is how to make it. Just mix an egg and some water together. That's it...

Good morning

Good morning everyone, I am just drinking my first cup of coffee for the day and reading the news. It's a little cold here this morning, right now it's 47 degrees. That's better than yesterday morning when it was 37 degrees. We are going to make Chicken soup today. I will post our Chicken soup recipe later. We talked to our son John last night on MSN messenger. He was doing well. He said that he is going to test out of Mod 11 at his OS-A School today at Naval Station Great Lakes and then he will be in chart plotting which he will finish by next week and then take the post test and CIC lab and be out by next Friday. He asked for a picture of me taken 10 years ago and I sent him one and then he sent the picture below back. LOL Me Vs Chuck Norris. What do you think? I told him that yes Chuck and I did look alike several years ago and then I just kept getting better looking and Chuck just kept getting older. LOL

How Safe is Coffee?

Being a big Coffee drinker I am always interested in weather or not drinking all the Coffee I do is going to cause me problems in the future. I might have just found the answer. The Mayo Clinic has an article about the safety or Coffee.

In summary:

One large study of 128,000 men and women showed no increase in the risk of heart disease from drinking filtered coffee. The findings […] indicated that it didn’t matter how much coffee participants drank.

But another study of 4,000 coffee drinkers […] found that two or more cups of coffee a day can increase the risk of heart disease in people with a specific genetic mutation that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body.

Regarding other health effects of coffee, some evidence suggests that drinking coffee may protect against type 2 diabetes and colon cancer.

Basically, it probably isn’t bad for you. It might even be a little bit good for you. But, moderation is key.

Coffee may cut alcohol liver damage

Could Irish coffee be the perfect drink?

Researchers reported on Monday that drinking coffee cuts the risk of cirrhosis of the liver from alcohol by 22 percent per cup each day but they stopped short of saying doctors should prescribe coffee for that reason.

The report from the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Oakland, California, was based on a look at data from 125,580 people."
