John went to Chicago again yesterday
I talked to my son John last night. He was on his way back to Naval Station Great Lakes on the train after spending the day in Chicago. He is going again today ( yesterday most of the stores were closed ). Whenever they leave base they have to go with a buddy. Yesterday John went with OS Tennant. John said that they had great Chicago style Pizza. Just looking at the pictures made me hungry. He also sent some pictures of other friends of his from on base. John should be getting his travel orders tomorrow. He has to be in Florida by the 18th to meet his ship.

John waiting for the pizza. When he was in high school he ate 27 slices at a pizza eating contest one time. I wonder how much of this pizza was left for his friend yesterday?
They had Chicago's World Famous Stuffed Pizza at Giordano's

OS Tennant serving himself a slice of Chicago deep-dish pizza. Is that all you got Tennant, one slice?

My son John called tonight. He got his Orders today.

My son John called tonight from Naval Station Great Lakes. He got his Orders today. He is to report to the USS Doyle at Naval Station Mayport Florida Nov 18th. Dolye is currently attached to Destroyer Squadron Fourteen. This was his first pick when he filled out his Dream Sheet a few weeks ago. John was very happy when he called. The USS Doyle (FFG-39) is an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigate. That is just what John requested. He is hoping to be able to come home to visit sometime around Christmas.

NewEgg mistakenly ships out five Eee PCs for the price of one
Apparently, Asus' Eee PC is so small, even NewEgg's atypically quick fulfillment crew couldn't believe that five of these things could fit into a single cardboard shipping box, so they just decided to slap labels on entire cases and let 'em rip.

A few reasons not to rush into Windows Vista
I found these graphs and this chart on a few blogs and decided they were too good not to share.
Take a look at a quick graphical comparison of system requirements of various versions of MS Windows editions. Pay close attention to the Vista column on the graphs.

I should state that my son John has Windows Vista on his Laptop and has no real problems. He has an Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7700 (2.40 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB), 2GB DDR2 System Memory, and 383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS video card.

My two kids in the Navy spent the day together

I just checked my computer and saw that my son John sent me some pictures. He and my daughter Cindy went out together today and went to the Mall and then to Joe's Crab Shack for lunch. Cindy is leaving Naval Station Great Lakes for her next assignment in a few weeks. She is going to her FC-C School at Dahlgren, Virginia to learn the M-160 Gun Computer System for three months. After that she will go to San Diego, CA and report to the USS Stockdale (DDG-106). It is still being built and will be ready sometime in 2008. She said that she might go to Maine for more school while waiting for them to complete the ship. The USS Stockdale (DDG-106) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer. John graduates his OS-A School this coming Friday and has put in his Dream Sheet for his orders but hasn't received them yet. He should find out where he is going soon. From the pictures you can tell that Cindy hates to have her picture taken. I hope she sends some more soon.

My son filled out his Dream Sheet for his Orders

I talked to my son John last night on Windows Live Messenger from Naval Station Great Lakes. He said that he filled out his Dream Sheet for his Orders yesterday. The Dream Sheet in the Navy is where they get to pick where they would like to be assigned. There is no guarantee that they will actually get to go to those places. In the military you go where you are needed most. John will finish his OS-A School next week. His choices were Florida, Hawaii ,Virginia, California, Japan , and Washington (state). John picked Hawaii and Florida. He is really hoping to go to Florida. He put in to work on a Guided Missile Frigate, he said that they do allot with the Coast Guard helping with Drug Bust and thought that might be interesting . John did say that he would come home to visit first. He said he would fly home for a few weeks then go back to Chicago and fly to his next duty station from there. The Navy pays for him to go from one Duty Station to another. Today John went to school for a little bit for Open Study ( he is doing chart plotting right now ). He said that it is allot of fun. Aside from that he is going to call us later. That's about it for now.

Happy Birthday Windows XP

It was on this day back in 2001 that Microsoft's Windows XP was released onto the desktops of consumers everywhere. It's still most people's favorite Windows OS, combining the stability of Windows 2000/NT with the eye candy of a consumer-focused OS like Windows 98. So happy birthday Windows XP.
